To Be Crazy, or Not to Be Crazy!?!?!

“Mental health experts need to devote more of their energies to preventing emotional and behavioral disorders rather than just treating them“ (Corey & Callanan, 2015, p. 460).

The immediate reaction I had to this item was, “which ‘mental health experts’?” As the field continues to grow and as more licenses and responsibilities develop, I was surprised at the ambiguity of this item. Having to face already stressed and underserved mental health programs in general, the division of roles and responsibilities commands the need for appropriately trained practitioners in various scopes of practice.

Obviously, both approaches applied simultaneously are needed. So why is this even a question? When considering how much mental health prevention and treatment cost, it's no wonder Americans are experiencing problems now more than ever.
What do you think should be done?
